ARTIST STATEMENT:

"My recent photographic work has been featured in over twenty solo and group exhibitions, spanning both national and international venues.

With my abstract BRUDD photographies I invite you into an antropocene manmade landscape revealing amazing 300 million years old granite, flint and marble stone formations found deep in Norwegian quarries of mining districts in Vestfold Norway, Møns Klint Denmark, Custonaci and Fantiscritti Carrara in Italy. The BRUDD photo series brings history an intimate and fresh contemporary expression which provides audience with a new consciousness about art and cultural history. I feel my work harmonizing with object-oriented philosphy. There is a shift  in both art history and philosphy towards ecological argument for non-human/non-anthropocentric understanding of the universe and of man and nature, i.e man is not placed in the centre. These photos show unique glimpses of  evolution impossible to reproduce - forever gone.:"

Gerd Borchgrevink is a graduate of Westerdals Oslo School of Arts and Communication. Between 2019 and 2025, she has participated in twenty solo and group exhibitions across Norway and abroad. Borchgrevink’s acclaimed photography of man-made nature bridges the documentary and the abstract. Her work featuring 300 million year old granite formations, discovered deep within Norwegian quarries, earned a nomination for the Vestfold and Telemark County Cultural Prize (2022). She was also shortlisted for the Cyan Folio by Høvikodden and Fotogalleriet (2019) and has been featured at the Nordic Light Festival of Photography.

The Quarry series illuminates our shared history through a modern visual language, fostering a new awareness of art and cultural heritage. In 2022, Borchgrevink participated in Ovasjon, a professional development program for artists organized by the Arts and Culture Norway (Kulturdirektoratet). She is a member of the Norwegian Union of Journalists (NJ), NSFF, TKK, and BONO.

In 2023, her photobook Brudd: The Beauty of Stoned Core Material was presented at the Oslo Photobook Festival, hosted by Galleri Cyan. The book is now part of the permanent library collections at the Preus Museum, the National Museum, and Deichman Bjørvika. While her work encompasses both people and nature, her primary focus in recent years has been landscapes of the Anthropocene epoch, both domestically and internationally. Her characteristic style is widely recognized for being innovative, evocative, and beautiful, with works acquired by both corporate collections and private collectors.
